Research Intelligence

Research Intelligence is the process of collecting, processing and analyzing information about the university and its operational environment, putting findings into context and proving actionable insights.

What is research intelligence?  

RI is the process of collecting, processing and analyzing information about the university and its operational environment, putting findings into context and proving actionable insights. RI helps universities look outward and towards the future, supporting sound decision making, shifting from a reactive to a proactive organization in order to increase organizational resilience.  

RI encompasses Competitive Intelligence, Business Intelligence and Market Intelligence.

BI provides insights on internal research performance using data from university/company activities. Questions that BI can answer:
– What is our proposal success rate with federal agencies?
– Do we have capacity in quantum communications?

CI assesses the business environment by analyzing signifiant factors for business or research success. Questions that CI can answer:
– Are we well positioned to be a leader in quantum technology?
– What university is leading the US in quantum technology?

Involves understanding of larger external environment, considering Social, Technological, Economic, Environmental, and Political factors that may affect the research enterprise. Questions that MI can answer:
– What is the future of energy?
– What factors may affect research funding in the near future?
